Former Google executive issues bleak warning for next '15 years of dystopia' - and it won't be because of AI

Daily Mail - Science & tech

A terrifying societal collapse worthy of Hollywood can never be entirely ruled out. But according to one former Google executive, it may come a lot sooner than we expected. Mo Gawdat, a tech entrepreneur and author who spent 11 years at Google, has given a bleak warning about the near-future of society. Speaking with The Diary of a CEO podcast, Mr Gawdat said we'll be living in a dystopia in just two years' time. Sounding worthy of George Orwell's novel '1984', the dystopia will last up to 15 years, the expert said.

How to use AI to make you look younger - as Tom Hanks defends using the technology in his latest film

Daily Mail - Science & tech

From a daily skincare routine to Botox and face lifts, some people will do almost anything to turn back the hands of time. Now, some actors are going one step further and using a controversial technology to digitally'de-age' their appearance. In his latest film, Tom Hanks, 68, and his Forrest Gump co-star Robin Wright, 58, use AI to play the same couple at different stages in their lives. Hanks says: 'It's a great tool, because the super computing means you do not have to wait for post-production to do the purely technical visual view of it.' There has been growing concern over the use of AI in cinema, with many actors worrying that the technology will force humans out of the film industry.

The superyacht that knows what you want before you do: Futuristic concept uses AI to anticipate passengers' desires by spying on them

Daily Mail - Science & tech

An onboard computer watching your every move might sound like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey. But now, a futuristic superyacht plans to use AI to learn what you want before you even realise it. Just like HAL 9000 from Stanley Kubrick's sci-fi classic, the ship's computer will spy on its passengers to learn more about their desires. Designed by the Italian shipyard Rossinavi, the 43-metre-long Solsea will use that information to tailor itself to the needs of individual guests. Rossinavi says that this onboard AI has been designed to make travel more comfortable and maximise the yacht's eco-friendly potential.

Burger and fr-AI-s? McDonald's reveals plans to use AI to produce 'hotter, fresher food' for customers

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Would you eat a burger cooked by a robot? It might not sound enticing but McDonald's claims implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in the kitchen will result in'hotter, fresher food'. The fast food giant has partnered with Google to bring cloud computing and AI solutions into the kitchen. While there won't be robots operating the grills quite yet, thousands of restaurants will soon be powered by high-powered computing. Brian Rice, McDonald's executive vice president says the upgrade means that'tools get sharper, models get smarter, restaurants become easier to operate, and most importantly, the overall experience for our customers and crew gets even better.'

Scientists use AI to revive Edith Piaf's voice so she can 'narrate' her own biopic

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Ediaf Piaf's rich tones will once again delight music fans as she stars in her own biopic - despite having passed away over 60 years ago. An AI recreation of Piaf's unmistakable voice will be used to narrate'Piaf', an upcoming film about her tumultuous life. Scientists from Warner Music Group have trained an AI on hundreds of recordings of Piaf, some over 80 years old, in order to'revive' Piaf's voice and image. Animation will be used alongside archival footage to tell the story of how Piaf rose to become an icon, including some previously unknown aspects. Julie Veille, who conceived the idea for the film, says that this will'help bring her story into the 21st century.' 'Piaf' will be a 90-minute film about the life of Edith Piaf and will be narrated by an AI reconstruction of the singer's voice The film, 'Piaf', will feature animation as well as archival footage of interviews, performances, and personal footage to tell the story of one of France's most iconic musicians Vielle said: 'It has been the greatest privilege to work alongside Edith's Estate.

Those Aren't Your Memories, They're Somebody Else's: Seeding Misinformation in Chat Bot Memories

One of the new developments in chit-chat bots is a long-term memory mechanism that remembers information from past conversations for increasing engagement and consistency of responses. The bot is designed to extract knowledge of personal nature from their conversation partner, e.g., stating preference for a particular color. In this paper, we show that this memory mechanism can result in unintended behavior. In particular, we found that one can combine a personal statement with an informative statement that would lead the bot to remember the informative statement alongside personal knowledge in its long term memory. This means that the bot can be tricked into remembering misinformation which it would regurgitate as statements of fact when recalling information relevant to the topic of conversation. We demonstrate this vulnerability on the BlenderBot 2 framework implemented on the ParlAI platform and provide examples on the more recent and significantly larger BlenderBot 3 model. We generate 150 examples of misinformation, of which 114 (76%) were remembered by BlenderBot 2 when combined with a personal statement. We further assessed the risk of this misinformation being recalled after intervening innocuous conversation and in response to multiple questions relevant to the injected memory. Our evaluation was performed on both the memory-only and the combination of memory and internet search modes of BlenderBot 2. From the combinations of these variables, we generated 12,890 conversations and analyzed recalled misinformation in the responses. We found that when the chat bot is questioned on the misinformation topic, it was 328% more likely to respond with the misinformation as fact when the misinformation was in the long-term memory.

HELPFUL OR HOMICIDAL -- HOW DANGEROUS IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)? - Dying Words

#artificialintelligence

AI is great for what I do--create content for the entertainment industry--and I have no plans to use AI for world domination. Not like a character I'm basing-on for my new series titled City Of Danger. It's a work in progress set for release this fall--2022. I didn't invent the character. I didn't have to because he exists in real life, and he's a mover and shaker behind many world economic and technological advances including promoting artificial intelligence. His name is Klaus Schwab.

Council Post: Metaethics, Meta-Intelligence And The Rise Of AI

His most recent book on AI is "Reimagining Businesses with AI." The rise of AI and digital technologies is enabling many capabilities, disrupting several business models and changing the way we live and work. At the same time, this technological shift is also giving rise to many concerns around ethics, privacy, security and the future of humanity. The notion of ethics has evolved. Decisions around right and wrong always depended on human cognition and were guided by popular sentiments and socially acceptable norms.

With Artificial Intelligence, The Future Is Upon Us

#artificialintelligence

In his pre-Wuhan Virus book, "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Super-Powers: China, Silicon Valley, and the New World Order," Taiwan-born American computer scientist, Kai-Fu Lee, having spent considerable time in China, awakens the reader to a new world of dramatic changes, realignments and sociological challenges. It is the end of the world as we know it. And the future is already here, although the author gives us about 20 more years to see it implemented. In Kai-Fu's opinion, the world has moved from theoretical discovery to practical applications and from the age of expertise to the age of data. AI is the energy of the new age.

AI - The new world order
